Our Current Mitzvah Project
The Social Action Committee is delighted to designate Ronald McDonald House in Brookline as the recipient of Temple Beth Emunah’s Spring and Summer mitzvah project.
Our project is twofold. We are collecting new toys for the infants, toddlers, and young children who are guests of Ronald McDonald House while they, or their siblings, receive treatment at Boston hospitals. The need is great for rattles, plastic keys, bath toys, shape sorters, balls, bath books, craft kits for girls, cars and trucks (no Matchbox, please) , K’nex and Lego sets, blocks, puzzles, and all the non- battery powered toys young children love. There is a box outside the library for your contributions.
The second mitzvah is making a meal for 25 people once a month. Our meals do not have to be kosher, but to celebrate Shavuot, we are making lasagna and salad to deliver to Brookline. We’d love to form a team, but if you can volunteer just one time, that’s fantastic. Our first meal preparation day is Sunday, June 8, at 9:30 a.m. Please contact Tina Langson at loseley@verizon.net or Leslie Cohen at lesgotoo@aol.com.
In order to fund our meals, we need donations. Please write McDonald dinner fund on the memo line of your check. There is no amount too small, or large, to donate. Our hope is to continue making meals beyond August.
You may mail your check to Temple Beth Emunah, 479 Pearl St., Brockton 02301, or drop it off in the Temple office.
Receipts for donations are available in the Temple office. If you have any questions please
e mail Tina Langson at loseley@verizon.net.

Bar-Mitzvah: Literally translates
to “son of the commandments.”
And there are 613 commandments. The
last one, the 613th, requires us to
write a Torah, or if we are not capable
of writing one ourselves then we can
commission someone to do it for us.
Writing even a small part of a Torah
is considered to fulfill this mitzvah!
As we embark on our project to restore
all the Temple Torahs, we are all
presented with a once in a lifetime
opportunity to fulfill this commandment.
At the same time, we can do something
good for our Temple – also a mitzvah.
As one becomes a Bar/Bat-Mitzvah,
one generally looks for ways to give
something back, or give tzedakah.
This is a perfect time for the Bar/Bat
Mitzvah to do a mitzvot by making
a contribution to the Torah Refurbishment
Campaign – perhaps a donation to restore
their parsha in the very Torah that
was used during their simcha to make
sure the next generation of kids,
maybe even their own some day, can
read from the same Torah.
We’ve always encouraged students
to perform some form of tzedakah on
their Bar/Bat Mitzvah and would like
to invite you to think about making
a donation to this exciting project.
You’ll see the results every time
you are in Temple, and they will last
for many, many years.
For more information, call the Temple office at 508-580-5310.
Mazel tov on your simcha.
