JACOB N. LIPMAN RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
Welcome back to Hebrew School. We hope you have had an excellent summer. We are looking forward to an exciting and productive year. We would like to welcome the new families who have joined the temple. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who helped me over the summer; all of their hard work is so appreciated.
Thank you to Tiffany and Madison Marshall for returning their tzedakah box last May.
Open house will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12th from 9AM to 11 AM. This will be a full and exciting morning for Pre-K through 6th grades and our Special Needs Collaborative. You will be able to meet your child’s teachers, choose adult education courses, enjoy music with Jen Antebi and create a book bag with Cindy Kaplan. Our terrific teaching staff is: Deborah Bank, Tobi Bloomwald, Caryn Budd, Jennifer Faber, Barbara Fine, Leanne Frank, Beth Golden, Robin Goldstein, Ruth Goldstein, Allyson Litner, Hagit Moverman, Leanne Pelser, Honey Possick, and Shira Werb. Special needs collaborative staff members are: Barbara Fine, Elaine Drobnis, Leanne Pelser, Michelle Roy and Cindy Schnitzer. We welcome Mary Rabinovitz and Beth Rawl to the staff. The teen-aides who enhance our religious school both in our regular school and in special needs are truly invaluable.
Our special needs school continues to grow. Classes meet on Sunday from 9-10. We offer classes from 3rd grade through B’Nai Mitzvah and are very proud of our students and their accomplishments. The special needs collaborative is open to the community. You do not need to be a temple member. If you know of any child with special needs looking for a Jewish education, please have them contact the school office, 508-583-5810.
The Jacob N. Lipman Religious School is teaming up with our L.I.F.E. (Life-long Interactive Family Experiences) Committee to offer many adult education and programs. We are very lucky to be receiving a grant that funds our family education programs. Our family educators are: Jennifer Faber, Barbara Fine, Hagit Moverman, and Leanne Pelser; coordinated by Fran Litner. Many adult education programs will be held on Sunday mornings, 9 AM-11 AM, while the children are in class. Again we will be offering Level 1 and Level 2 Hebrew. We are hoping to form an adult Bat Mitzvah class for the coming year. Please call Fran Litner at the school office, 508-583-5810, if you are interested.
We are very proud and excited to offer the third year of our Telem Program for our 8th through 12th grade students at Temple Beth Emunah. The classes will be two semesters, each nine weeks long; one week in the Temple and one week off-site. Rabbi Arye, Fran Litner, and our staff including Jen Faber, Barbara Fine, Hagit Moverman and Leanne Pelser, and Beth Golden work with the Telem students. There will be a large focus on hunger and homelessness, elder care and working with special needs children. Course offerings include ethics, peer pressure, genealogy, and comparative religion. We will bring in speakers, lay professionals, and go on field trips. We have partnered with Telem through the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, which promotes social justice and volunteering among Jewish youth. We now visit Heights Crossing in Brockton and Evelyn House in Stoughton. This year, we are proud to begin a relationship with the Louison House in Brockton. Please call the school office for further information.
Once again Kosher Korner will be opening on Tuesday before school for students to get a snack. All items are $1.00. You will be able to prepay for snacks at the Open House.
We have instituted a new format in place of the weekly Junior Congregation.
Shabbat Junior Congregation will meet several times throughout the year and will be teacher led. More information will follow.
Wishing you a Sweet Year
L’Shana Tovah
Fran Litner Educational Director
